Jon Aaron Aaseng

Personal Bio

I studied my craft at the USC School of Cinema-Television from '95-'99. After completing my formal training, I began shooting a variety of independent film projects, both documentary and narrative. After 8 years in Los Angeles, I moved back to my home state of Montana, where I currently live with my family while continuing to work around the world on documentary and outdoor television programming. My work has aired on HBO, PBS, Showtime, ESPN, VS., Outdoor Channel, as well as in numerous film festivals and theatrically.   My commitment to hard work and filmmaking excellence is the foundation of everything I do as a producer/director at Mountain Kid Pictures and as a cinematographer on set or in the field for everyone else.

I received the 2002 Kodak Cinematography Award at Film Fest New Haven for my work on the short film "The Tower of Babble."   I also photographed "Parents of the Year" which won several awards and was nominated for a 2004 IDA award for Distinguished Short Documentary.   "Maxed Out" marked my third collaboration with director, James Scurlock. It made it's world premier in Austin, Texas at the 2006 South By Southwest Film Festival where it received the Special Jury Award, and was later named one of Washington Post's Top 10 Films of 2007.

Aside from being a filmmaker, I am also: scuba diver, skier, carpenter, backpacker, horse-back rider, husband, father, son of a preacher man, occasional sail boat race deck-hand, snowmobiler, mountain biker, and passport stamp collector.
